Father of Meningitis Victim Calls for Action After Rapid Illness

Michael Kenny, father of sixth-form student Juliette Kenny, who tragically died following a meningitis outbreak in Kent, has released a heartfelt statement.

A Daughter Remembered

Mr. Kenny described Juliette as a vibrant and positive individual.

"Juliette was a positive individual who spread fun, love, and happiness to those around her."

He noted that the loss is immeasurable for her family and friends, who are finding support by sharing stories of her empathy and warmth.

Rapid Onset and Tragic Loss

Juliette's illness progressed with terrifying speed.

On Thursday, March 12, she successfully completed a practical element of her P.E. A-level, appearing fit and healthy.

In the early hours of Friday, March 13, she vomited without other initial symptoms. Later that morning, due to a discoloration appearing on her cheeks, she was taken to a local emergency drop-in clinic.

She was administered antibiotics and promptly transferred by ambulance to A&E.

Despite the dedicated efforts of NHS hospital staff, Juliette died from meningitis less than 12 hours after symptoms first appeared. Her family was present at the time of her death.

A Call for Lasting Change

Mr. Kenny stated that no family should experience such pain and tragedy, asserting that the illness can be avoided.

"No family should experience such pain and tragedy. This illness can be avoided."

He highlighted that young people are currently battling meningitis and remain at risk. He emphasized the urgent need for increased work to protect young people and called for lasting change to ensure families are safe from the impact of Meningitis B.
