Flights Missed Due to TSA Delays: What to Know
Due to ongoing airport security delays, airlines generally do not assume responsibility for flights missed as a result of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening delays.
According to Katy Nastro, a travel expert at Going.com, airline obligations for significant flight delays or cancellations do not apply to TSA screening issues, as these are considered outside airline control.
Passengers are not entitled to refunds for flights missed due to security delays. However, airlines may rebook passengers based on their specific policies.
Airline Rebooking Policies
- American Airlines: Passengers who miss flights due to TSA screening delays will be rebooked for free on the next available flight.
- Delta Air Lines: The airline will assist customers with rebooking on a case-by-case basis. Customers are advised to contact Delta as soon as possible to discuss options.
- Southwest Airlines: Southwest urges passengers to arrive early. For those who miss flights due to long lines, the airline attempts to place them on the next available flight and offers penalty-free rebooking at affected airports.
