The No. 4 seed Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the 13th-seeded Hofstra Pride 90-70 in a first-round game of the NCAA Tournament's Midwest Region on Friday.
Labaron Philon Jr. led Alabama with 29 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, proving pivotal in the victory.

Alabama (24-9) advanced to play fifth-seeded Texas Tech (23-10) in the second round. Texas Tech previously defeated 12th-seeded Akron to secure its spot.

The Crimson Tide rallied from an early 10-point deficit, ending the first half on a decisive 19-7 run. They subsequently built a 13-point lead before Hofstra mounted a brief comeback attempt.
Hofstra's freshman Preston Edmead scored 24 points, with a 3-point basket narrowing Alabama's lead to 67-62. Victory Onuetu's dunk further reduced the lead to 69-64, bringing the Pride within striking distance.
However, Philon quickly responded with a layup and a 3-pointer, re-establishing a double-digit advantage for Alabama. Taylor Bol Bowen then contributed two dunks and a 3-pointer, ultimately extending the lead to 20 points and securing the win.
