Crimson Desert Developer Confirms AI Assets, Apologizes for Inclusion

The developer of the game Crimson Desert has acknowledged that AI-generated assets were present in its final release. Reviews of the game had been mixed, with the discovery of these assets becoming a prominent issue among players and critics.

In a statement posted on X, the company clarified the situation. It stated that the AI art was used during the game's creation but was intended to be replaced before the release.

Company Apologizes and Initiates Audit

Following the outcry, the developer announced it is now conducting a "comprehensive audit" to identify and remove all AI-generated content from the game.

The company issued an apology for both the inclusion of the AI content in the final product and for the lack of transparency regarding its use during development.

"We should have clearly disclosed our use of AI."

Broader Industry Debate on AI in Gaming

Generative AI's application in the gaming industry has become a significant discussion point in recent years. While some larger studios have adopted AI tools for various aspects of game development, the technology has met with considerable opposition from many independent developers. These smaller studios often market their games specifically as "AI-free" to appeal to a segment of the gaming community wary of the technology's implications.
