Roosters Dismiss Robinson Departure Rumors

The Sydney Roosters have addressed and dismissed rumors concerning head coach Trent Robinson's potential early departure from the club. Speculation suggested Robinson might leave for France at the end of the year, partly due to his wife being French and long-standing discussions about him potentially coaching there later in his career.

Roosters chairman Nick Politis denied the rumors, stating that Robinson "is going nowhere."

Robinson has led the Roosters to three premierships since 2013. The team's performance, including two significant losses in their first three games of the 2026 season, has led to discussions regarding his job security.

Scrutiny and Expectations

Journalist Brent Read indicated that Robinson is not currently under pressure, noting, "The greatest pressure on Robbo is the pressure he puts on himself." Read also mentioned the seven-year gap since the club's last premiership, which is considered a long period for a club of the Roosters' stature. He suggested that significant pressure would only emerge if the season continued to be very poor.

NRL360 host Braith Anasta and former Broncos player Gorden Tallis discussed the high expectations at the Roosters. Tallis noted that even successful coaches like Wayne Bennett have been moved on. Anasta agreed that no coach is entirely safe in the sport, especially with the quality of players the Roosters possess, implying that the team is built for immediate success and faces no excuses this season.
