Ford Explores F-150 Tremor and Raptor for Australian Market
Ford Australia is evaluating the potential introduction of its F-150 Tremor and F-150 Raptor models to the Australian market. This decision is contingent on sufficient local customer demand for these off-road focused vehicles and the viability of a business case for their import and conversion.
F-150 Tremor and Raptor: Australian Market Evaluation
The process of bringing the F-150 Tremor and F-150 Raptor to Australia would necessitate significant re-engineering. This involves converting the vehicles from left-hand to right-hand drive and ensuring compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADRs). RMA Automotive is identified as the entity responsible for undertaking this conversion work in Australia.
Ford Australia Product Communications Manager Ben Nightingale stated that the decision-making process is "customer led," with a viable business case being an essential prerequisite for such an undertaking. The F-150 Raptor, in particular, has been noted as a challenging product to introduce at a competitive price point in the Australian market.

Pricing Expectations and Market Context
In the United States, the F-150 Tremor currently starts at approximately US$64,195, while the F-150 Raptor begins at US$79,005. The higher-performance F-150 Raptor R is priced from US$110,930. These US dollar figures equate to approximately A$91,600, A$111,500, and A$156,500, respectively, prior to any additional costs for the Australian market.
If imported to Australia, the retail prices for these models are expected to be considerably higher than their US equivalents due to additional costs associated with shipping, the conversion process by RMA Automotive, and compliance requirements.
For context, the entry-level Australian-specification F-150 XLT currently starts at A$114,950 before on-road costs. The F-150 Platinum, recently introduced to Australia, is priced from A$163,950. The Ram 1500 TRX, a comparative vehicle, was previously offered in Australia starting from A$249,950.
US prices for the F-150 Tremor start at approximately US$64,195, while the F-150 Raptor begins at US$79,005, and the Raptor R from US$110,930.
Australia's "High Series Market" Strategy
Ford Australia recently introduced the F-150 Platinum trim level to the Australian market, priced from A$163,950. Ford Australia Product Marketing Manager Peter Zikas explained that Australia is considered a "high series market" for both the F-150 and Ranger. Dealer network feedback consistently indicated a demand for higher-specification models.
Zikas noted that the Platinum trim was selected to deliver on key market demands, given the limitations on the number of US series that can be offered in Australia.
Australia is considered a "high series market" for both the F-150 and Ranger, influencing the selection of higher-specification models for introduction.
Super Duty Models: An Unlikely Prospect
Ford has indicated that the introduction of larger Super Duty trucks, specifically the F-250 or F-350, to Australia is unlikely. These models would compete with vehicles such as the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and Ram 2500/3500.
Iain Jones, Ford Program Director for International Markets Group, mentioned that the remanufacturing process for these larger trucks would be extensive and would require a strong business case, which has not been evident. Zikas added that there has been limited customer interest in the F-250 or F-350 Super Duty models in Australia, with the F-150 and Ranger currently fulfilling heavy-duty capability requirements.
