Court Ruling
A 78-year-old man from Ringwood East, Melbourne, has been sentenced to a minimum of four years in jail for offenses related to child exploitation.
Details of the Case
The man administered a covert dark web page. On this platform, he engaged in grooming children aged eight to twelve years. Activities on the site included sharing child sexual abuse material and conducting sexual conversations with boys.
The man used his invite-only website to recruit individuals in Australia and internationally to engage in sexual conversations with children and distribute child abuse material.
Investigation and Seizure
The Victorian joint anti-child exploitation team, a collaborative taskforce comprising Victorian and federal police, commenced an investigation into the man in June 2022.
In July 2023, the taskforce conducted raids on three of his properties located in Ringwood East, Wantirna South, and Healesville.
During the raids, officers confiscated four computers, one mobile phone, five digital storage devices, 221 CDs and DVDs, 149 magazines, and three books. A forensic examination of these items confirmed they contained child abuse material.
