Boston Bruins Sign Prospect James Hagens to AHL Amateur Tryout Agreement

The Boston Bruins announced the signing of forward James Hagens to an AHL amateur tryout agreement (ATO).

Hagens is scheduled to join the Providence Bruins for team practice on Tuesday, March 24, at Amica Mutual Pavilion.

Player Profile and Collegiate Performance

Hagens, 19, was selected by the Boston Bruins in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. The 5-foot-11, 193-pound forward played 34 games with Boston College during the 2024-25 season.

He led Hockey East skaters in scoring with 23 goals and 24 assists for a total of 47 points. His performance also included six game-winning goals, two hat tricks, and 133 shots on goal, leading the team in these categories.

In the 2023-24 season, Hagens earned a spot on the conference’s All-Rookie Team after recording 37 points (11 goals, 26 assists). Across two seasons (2023-26) with Boston College, he accumulated 34 goals and 50 assists for 84 points in 71 games.

Prior Development and International Play

Before his collegiate career, Hagens spent two seasons (2022-24) with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP). During this time, he recorded 72 goals and 115 assists, totaling 187 points, which ranks as the fifth-most in the program's history.

The Hauppauge, New York, native has represented the United States internationally. He participated in two IIHF World Junior Championships (2025, 2026), winning gold in 2025. He also competed in two IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championships (2023, 2024), securing gold in 2023.

Hagens set the IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championship single-tournament scoring record with 22 points in 2024. He was also named tournament MVP and contributed to the United States securing a silver medal in that tournament.
