Trump Reportedly Open to Compromise on DHS Funding Deal

DHS Funding Negotiations

Senate Republicans indicate that former President Donald Trump may be amenable to a deal for funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This development follows a White House meeting held on Monday night, signaling a potential shift from his previous position of refusing negotiations without action on the "Save America Act."

Proposed Deal Details

Lawmakers familiar with the discussions stated that Trump is willing to accept a funding package that does not fully allocate funds for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This approach includes separating some enforcement funding to gain Democratic support for the initial package.

Republicans would then pursue additional ICE funding through a budget reconciliation process later and attempt to advance elements of the "Save America Act" in a subsequent bill.

"We demonstrated that a parallel process is feasible, allowing for DHS funding now and a second reconciliation bill to initiate parts of the Save America Act."
