Wife Testifies in Hawaii Doctor's Attempted Murder Trial

On Tuesday, Arielle Konig, wife of Hawaii doctor Gerhardt Konig, provided testimony recounting an alleged assault during a birthday hike. The incident occurred on March 24, 2025, on Oahu's Pali Puka Trail, according to her statement during his attempted murder trial.

Alleged Assault on Pali Puka Trail

Arielle Konig testified that after taking a cliffside selfie, she felt uneasy near the edge and asked her husband to move.

She alleged that Gerhardt Konig then forcefully grabbed her arm, pushed her towards the cliff, and instructed her to "Get back over there."

According to her testimony, she initially believed he was joking. However, she then threw herself to the ground to hold onto trees and shrubs. She stated that her husband climbed on top of her with a syringe and told her to hold still.

Struggle and Intervention

Arielle Konig testified she batted the syringe away and defended herself by screaming, biting his forearm, and squeezing his testicles.

She recalled him saying, "Shut the f--- up. Nobody's going to hear you out here. Nobody's coming to save you."

Her testimony continued, detailing that her husband then began striking her face and head with a rock. She continued screaming, and a woman nearby reportedly stated she was calling 911. Gerhardt Konig allegedly "froze," allowing Arielle Konig to crawl away and seek help from the women who had contacted authorities.

Injuries and Background Revealed

Court proceedings included a 911 call from last week, where hikers reported seeing a man attempting to kill a blood-covered woman. Arielle Konig stated she sustained severe scalp lacerations and presented a scar to the jury.

She also testified that the alleged attack took place three months after her husband discovered she had been involved in an "emotional affair" with a co-worker. They had been attending counseling to rebuild trust.

Defendant's Plea and Defense

Dr. Gerhardt Konig, a Maui anesthesiologist, has pleaded not guilty to second-degree attempted murder. His attorney has asserted that the attack was an act of self-defense, claiming Gerhardt Konig struck his wife after believing she attempted to push him from the trail.
