Teen Charged with Terrorism-Related Offenses in Melbourne
A 17-year-old male has been charged in Melbourne with collecting terrorist manuals, guides, and Islamic State (ISIS) propaganda.
Investigation Underway
A joint task force of police and intelligence officers commenced an investigation after an Islamic State flag was reportedly ordered to the boy's inner-city property. On Tuesday, Victoria Police executed a search warrant at the address, seizing a mobile phone and a laptop.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
The boy faces one count of collecting or making documents that facilitate a terrorist act and one count of importing a prohibited object, specifically an Islamic State flag. He appeared before a children's court and was remanded to appear again at a later date.
The charge for collecting or making documents that facilitate a terrorist act carries a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment.
The boy cannot be named for legal reasons.
