OpenAI Introduces 'Library' Feature for ChatGPT

OpenAI has introduced a new feature called 'Library' for ChatGPT, allowing users to store personal files and images on OpenAI's cloud storage. This feature enables uploaded content to be used for reference in future chat sessions.

The 'Library' feature provides cloud storage for personal files and images, making them readily available for future chat interactions.

Availability and Restrictions

Availability of the 'Library' feature is restricted to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business subscribers. Its rollout notably excludes customers in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Automatic File Management

ChatGPT automatically saves uploaded and created files, such as documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and images, in a dedicated and secure location. This ensures easy access later. Files are saved to a user's account until manually deleted; importantly, deleting a chat containing a file does not remove the file from the Library. AI-generated images continue to appear in a separate 'Images' tab.

Uploading Content

Files can be uploaded by opening the composer menu, selecting 'Add from library,' and choosing the desired file.

Deleting Files

To delete a file:

  • Select the file in the 'Library' tab.
  • Click 'Delete' or the trash icon associated with the file.

OpenAI reports that files are removed from its servers within 30 days of deletion.
