AppGrid Updates Blocked by Apple Over Launchpad Resemblance

Apple has blocked updates for the AppGrid application, citing its resemblance to Launchpad, a feature discontinued in macOS Tahoe. AppGrid, developed by Attila Miklosi, was created to restore the classic grid interface for browsing and launching applications on macOS Tahoe after Launchpad's removal.

The Disputed Resemblance and App Store Standoff

According to Miklosi, Apple began blocking all updates approximately three months after the app's release, stating that it was too similar to Launchpad.

Despite this, AppGrid remains available on the App Store, generating revenue for both the developer and Apple, but without the ability for Miklosi to issue bug fixes or add new features.

Developer's Refusal to Alter Appearance

Miklosi states that Apple indicated updates would be accepted if the app's appearance was altered to be less similar to Launchpad.

AppGrid's user base had specifically purchased the app for its likeness to the discontinued feature, leading Miklosi to decline that option.

An Alternative Distribution Channel

As a result, Miklosi now distributes an alternate version of AppGrid outside of the App Store. This version includes features not permitted in App Store applications, such as hot corner and pinch gesture activation.
