View source

DJI has released the Avata 360, a new FPV (First-Person View) drone that integrates 360-degree video capture with immersive flight capabilities.

Key Features and Specifications

Camera System

The Avata 360 utilizes dual 1-inch-type (1/1.1″) square sensors to capture spherical footage at up to 8K resolution at 60 fps with HDR. This allows for reframing footage after recording.

  • 360° Mode: Captures spherical footage at up to 8K resolution at 60 fps with HDR.
  • Single-Lens Mode: Offers conventional forward-facing recording at up to 4K 60fps.
  • Sensors: Feature a 2.4μm pixel size for improved performance in varied lighting conditions.
  • Video Codec: H.265 in an MP4 container with a maximum bitrate of 180Mbps.
  • Color Profiles: Normal or D-Log M.
  • Still Images: Up to 120 megapixels.
  • Post-Production: Supports features like GyroFrame for adjusting camera angles and a virtual gimbal system for simulated camera movements.
  • Lens: Features a user-replaceable front lens element.

Flight and Transmission

The Avata 360 employs DJI’s advanced O4+ system for reliable video transmission and supports a variety of control options for an immersive flight experience.

  • Video Transmission: Employs DJI’s O4+ system, supporting a 1080p live feed at 60 fps with a transmission range of up to 20 km (FCC mode).
  • Flight Time: Up to 23 minutes.
  • Obstacle Sensing: Includes omnidirectional obstacle sensing for enhanced safety.
  • Propeller Guards: Integrated as part of the Avata series design.
  • Compatibility: Operable with FPV goggles and motion controllers for immersive flight, or with standard DJI remote controllers (RC 2, RC-N2, RC-N3).

Automated Flight & Filming Tools

The drone comes equipped with intelligent features to assist with tracking and creative camera movements.

  • ActiveTrack 360°: For precise subject tracking from all angles.
  • Spotlight Free: Maintains focus on a subject during flexible camera movement.
  • Intelligent Tracking: Identifies and follows people, vehicles, and animals.
  • FPV Mode: Adds roll-based motion effects for dynamic shots.

Storage and Data Transfer

The Avata 360 offers ample internal storage and fast data transfer capabilities.

  • Internal Storage: 42GB, sufficient for approximately 30 minutes of 8K 360° video.
  • External Storage: Includes a microSD card slot for expandable storage.
  • Data Transfer: Via Wi-Fi 6, with speeds up to 100 MB/s.

Market Positioning

The DJI Avata 360 has a take-off weight of 455g, making it heavier than some competitors like the sub-250g Antigravity A1 drone. However, the Avata 360 positions its cameras closer, potentially improving stitching for closer objects compared to the Antigravity A1.
