Huw Aaron's "Sleep Tight, Disgusting Blob" Wins Waterstones Children's Book Prize

Huw Aaron's enchanting book, "Sleep Tight, Disgusting Blob," has been awarded the prestigious Waterstones Children's Book Prize. The narrative features a parent blob tucking a child blob into bed and introduces a cast of unique characters, including a yeti, Medusa, and a Minotaur.

Aaron, a Welsh author and illustrator, was announced as the overall winner of the £5,000 prize at a ceremony.

His book initially secured the illustrated books category award before being named the grand prize recipient. Waterstones head of books, Bea Carvalho, highlighted that booksellers, who vote for the prize, commended Aaron's "dreamy, painterly style and sweet rhyming text."

Author Background and Unique Achievement

Aaron, a native of Swansea who now resides in Cardiff, made a significant career shift in 2009, transitioning from accountancy to become a freelance cartoonist. He has since contributed cartoons to various magazines.

In a first for the award's history, Aaron's book, "Unfairies," also received a nomination in the younger readers category. This marks the first instance of an author being shortlisted for two titles concurrently.
