Starlink Satellite Suffers Fragmentation Event On-Orbit

SpaceX Starlink satellite 34343 underwent a "fragmentation event" on March 29, 2026, after an on-orbit anomaly resulted in loss of communication at approximately 560 km above Earth.

SpaceX stated that the event poses no new risk to the International Space Station, its crew, or NASA’s Artemis II mission. The company confirmed that the event also did not pose new risk to the Transporter-16 mission, which was designed to avoid the Starlink constellation.

SpaceX and Starlink teams are investigating the root cause and plan to implement corrective actions. Monitoring of the satellite and any trackable debris is ongoing, with coordination involving NASA and the U.S. Space Force.

HEO Robotics captured an image of Starlink satellite 34343 on February 14, 2026, prior to the fragmentation event. HEO is currently working to image the satellite's condition following the fragmentation.
