Four individuals have been confirmed deceased following an avalanche in the Vardousia Mountains of Greece. The hikers, identified as three men and one woman, were reported missing on December 25th.
Their bodies were located on Friday evening by fire service teams during a search operation in the mountainous Fokida region. The discovery was made on a steep slope near the summit of Korakas peak, at an approximate altitude of 2,000 meters (6,561 feet).
Rescue officials indicated that the group was swept away by an avalanche. Initial reports from authorities suggest that the ascent began under favorable weather conditions, which subsequently deteriorated due to the altitude and terrain.
