Key Additions and Features

Free Lanes Update

This major free update, available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, enables free travel between planets within a star system and introduces a Cruise Mode. Other significant additions include:

  • New space encounters, customization options, and a Database system.
  • A new land vehicle, the Moon Jumper, and additional Points of Interest (POIs).
  • Changes to New Game+ mechanics, offering fresh experiences for repeat playthroughs.
  • X-Tech crafting support for weapons and armor, allowing for customization of legendary effects and adding new quality tiers and upgrade modules.
  • New weapon skins and a buildable ship optimization terminal.
  • Legendary enemy modifiers, which can be adjusted in gameplay options to tailor difficulty.
  • A Quantum Entanglement Device for item transfer when going through the Unity, and the ability to upgrade Starborn Powers with Quantum Essence.
  • Outpost quality-of-life improvements, including a Shared Outpost Container and precise placement mode for builders.
  • A new player house, “Château des Étoiles,” and Muria Siarkiewicz as a new crew member.
  • Additional ship camera distances and an option to always show the landing camera.

Terran Armada DLC

This paid story expansion, priced at $10, introduces new locations, weapons, and challenges against the formidable robotic Terran Armada.

PlayStation 5 Version

Starfield is now available for players on PS5, expanding its reach to a new console audience.

General Improvements and Fixes

Numerous general improvements and fixes have been implemented to enhance the overall player experience:

  • Stability: General crash and stability issues have been addressed, leading to a more robust and reliable game.
  • Gameplay: Improvements include better loot from locked containers, fixes for weapon damage calculations, and resolution of issues with movement while reloading specific weapons.
  • Quests: Various quest-related bugs have been resolved, including issues with returning data, quest progression, companion states, item acquisition, and receiving the Star Eagle ship.
  • Locations: Issues with beds granting Rested Bonus in Akila City and character seating in Explorer's Refuge have been fixed.
  • User Interface (UI): Improvements cover weapon workbench placement, Ship Repair UI, Ship Builder functionalities (renaming ships, duplicate models, large font mode), Outpost UI, and PC controls for renaming items.

This update is considered a significant development for Starfield since its launch on September 5, 2023. Bethesda's Todd Howard previously acknowledged player feedback regarding aspects such as maps and gameplay options, indicating this update directly addresses many community requests.
