Jay Malkoun has been arrested in Dubai as part of an investigation into an alleged extortion attempt.
Malkoun, identified as a former leader of the Comanchero motorcycle club, had recently published a true crime memoir. He is currently being detained in the United Arab Emirates, according to three individuals with knowledge of underworld activities.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian reported to be detained in Dubai. A departmental spokesperson stated this action is due to privacy restrictions.
