GoPro Unveils Mission 1 Series of Action Cameras with Standard, Pro, and Interchangeable Lens Models

GoPro has announced the Mission 1 series, a new line of action cameras comprising three models: the standard Mission 1, the Mission 1 Pro, and the Mission 1 Pro ILS. The series is built around a new 50-megapixel 1-inch image sensor and a proprietary GP3 processor.

Pre-orders for the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro are scheduled to begin on May 21, 2025, with general availability on May 28, 2025. The Mission 1 Pro ILS is scheduled for a third-quarter 2026 release.

Product Lineup and Pricing

The series includes three distinct models:

  • Mission 1 ($599.99): The entry-level model includes the 50MP sensor and GP3 processor but has reduced video capabilities compared to the Pro version.
  • Mission 1 Pro ($699.99): This model offers the full suite of video recording features, including higher frame rates.
  • Mission 1 Pro ILS ($699.99): Features a Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lens mount, allowing users to attach interchangeable lenses. A $100 discount is available for GoPro subscribers. It shares the same sensor and core video specs as the Mission 1 Pro.

Several bundled editions have also been announced:

  • Mission 1 Pro Grip Edition ($779.99)
  • Creator Edition ($1,099.99)
  • Ultimate Creator Edition ($1,199.99)

Note: GoPro stated that pricing for the standard Mission 1 Pro was not finalized at the time of the announcement due to ongoing issues in the flash memory production market.

Sensor and Processor

  • Image Sensor: 50-megapixel, 1-inch type sensor. GoPro reports a native pixel size of 1.6µm, which can fuse into 3.2µm pixels.
  • Processor: New GP3 processor built on a 5nm architecture, featuring AI-based image processing.

  • Color: Supports 10-bit color, HLG HDR, and a GP-Log2 profile.

Mission 1 Pro ILS:

  • Shares the same video specifications as the Mission 1 Pro.
  • Supports in-camera HyperSmooth stabilization when used with compatible rectilinear, prime focal length lenses.

  • 32-bit float audio recording capability
  • Improved multi-microphone system (four microphones on the Mission 1 Pro)

Physical Design and Durability

  • Waterproof Rating: 66 feet (20 meters) without a housing; extendable to 196 feet (60 meters) with an optional dive case.
  • Lens: Removable lens hood with a hydrophobic front element coating.
  • Displays: Rear 2.59-inch OLED touchscreen; front 1.4-inch OLED display.
  • Controls: Raised buttons for easier use with gloves or during high-speed activity.

Storage and Battery

  • Storage: Uses microSD cards (V30, A2 speed rating recommended for highest quality). The cameras do not include internal storage.
  • Battery: Uses GoPro's new Enduro 2 battery, which the company states has a 13% higher capacity than the previous generation. Supports PD2.0 fast charging, reaching a full charge in one hour.

Accessories and Availability

All Mission 1 series accessories are scheduled to become available starting May 28, 2025. A wireless microphone system is priced at $160. GoPro is offering a free point-and-shoot grip with direct pre-orders of the Mission 1 or Mission 1 Pro.

Pablo Lema, Senior Vice President of Product, stated that the combination of the 50MP sensor and GP3 processor "sets a new performance bar for compact cinema cameras."

Nicholas Woodman, Founder and CEO, said the Mission 1 Series is "the pinnacle of performance for low-cost, compact cinema cameras" and was developed in response to customer requests.
