Pitch-Hit Incident Escalates Tensions Between Reds and Giants

On Thursday, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Spencer Steer was hit by a 93 MPH fastball from San Francisco Giants pitcher Landen Roupp during the first pitch of Steer's first at-bat. The incident occurred less than 24 hours after a heated confrontation between Steer and a Giants pitcher.

The pitch hit Steer less than a day after he exchanged words with Giants reliever JT Brubaker.

Background of the Confrontation

During Wednesday's game, a tense moment unfolded between Steer and Giants reliever JT Brubaker. Brubaker appeared to delay his pitch after Steer called a timeout. Broadcast cameras showed Steer yelling profanities at Brubaker, including "F—k you" and "Throw the f—king ball."

Steer subsequently hit a single in that at-bat, and the Reds went on to win Wednesday's game 8-3.

Escalation During Thursday's Game

The tensions from the previous day carried over. The first pitch Steer saw in Thursday's game was the 93 MPH fastball from Roupp that struck him.

Later in Thursday's game, Giants player Willy Adames was hit by a 98 MPH fastball that appeared intentional, further escalating the situation between the two teams.

Aftermath and Clearing of the Benches

The Giants won Thursday's contest 3-0. After the game, the benches cleared when Giants pitcher Erik Miller shouted at the Reds during their victory celebrations. No physical altercations occurred.

The two teams are not scheduled to play each other again until August.
