Netflix Announces Major Mobile App Redesign
Netflix will launch a redesigned mobile app at the end of April, introducing a vertical video feed to its platform. The announcement was made in the company's Q1 2026 earnings letter to shareholders.
The redesign will better reflect Netflix's expanding entertainment offering and make it easier for members to engage how and when they want.
Blurring Lines Between TV and Mobile
In the shareholder letter, Netflix noted that the lines between entertainment on television and mobile devices are blurring. The company pointed out that content like video podcasts "over-index" on mobile viewing.
This move follows through on comments made by Co-CEO Greg Peters in January, when he stated the company was planning to revamp its mobile user interface to better serve its business expansion over the coming decade.
Following the TV App Update
The mobile redesign follows a major update for Netflix's TV app that launched last year. At the time of that TV app announcement, Netflix also shared it would begin testing a vertical video feed.
That test feed showed clips of Netflix shows and movies, which users could tap to watch the full episodes or films. The new mobile app appears to be the full-scale implementation of this tested feature.
