YouTube TV Launches Fully Customizable Multiview, Lets You Build Your Own Grid
YouTube TV has begun rolling out a customizable multiview feature, allowing subscribers to select any live content from their subscription package—moving beyond the limited preset options previously available.
What It Does
The feature enables viewers to watch up to four live channels simultaneously on a single screen. To activate it, users press down on their remote and select the "Multiview" option, which opens a new staging area. From there, content can be chosen from categories including "Recommended," "Sports," "News," "Movies," "Shows," and "Other live content."
Important Limitations
Only live content is supported. Video on Demand (VOD) and DVR recordings cannot be added to a multiview grid. Additionally, some content labeled as "family friendly" is excluded from customization, according to a YouTube representative.
Device Availability
The feature is rolling out to most devices. However, a subset of older devices—representing less than 5% of the total—will only have access to a builder focused on major events like NFL games or the FIFA World Cup.
Technical Details
YouTube confirms that all multiview processing is handled on the server side, eliminating the need for specialized hardware in the customer's home.
Pricing and Plans
The feature is available to customers on the main YouTube TV plan, which costs $82.99 per month and includes over 100 channels, as well as those on lower-priced genre plans.
Official Statements
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced on X on launch day: "Today, we’re officially launching fully customizable multiview on @YouTubeTV." Google stated that the update moves beyond top recommended channels to give users full control.
Rollout Status
The rollout appears to be gradual; not all subscribers have access yet. Some users on Reddit reported seeing the new configuration options appear over the past week, suggesting the feature is being activated in waves.
