Draft Day and Post-Draft Events
Caleb Downs was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the 11th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. After thanking Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the organization, he walked to the draft stage. On his way, he received a hug from former Alabama teammate Tyler Booker, who is the Cowboys' first-round pick in 2025.
Downs paused to look at the Cowboys star on the stage floor before taking the stage. He embraced NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and held a Cowboys jersey with "Downs" and the number one.
Following the draft, Downs conducted over a dozen interviews with local and national media. His night concluded around 11:30 p.m. He then slept for two and a half hours before flying to Dallas on a private jet, arriving at Love Field Airport at 11:25 a.m. on Friday.
Downs stated he had an inclination that the Cowboys might select him, based on interactions during the draft process. He also mentioned praying for a good fit.
Arrival at The Star
Downs and his family traveled by luxury bus to The Star in Frisco. Upon arrival, he was escorted by four Ford pickup trucks, a reception only previously given to former President Bill Clinton that week. He was fitted for Lucchese boots and viewed the Cowboys' five Lombardi trophies.
"The trophies represent the team's goal."
Downs is now settling into Frisco and is scheduled for a press conference with local media on Friday afternoon.
Meetings
Downs met with defensive coordinator Christian Parker, defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley, secondary coach Ryan Smith, outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe, and assistant defensive line coach Demeitre Brim.
Downs on Draft Position
Downs commented on his selection as a safety at a high pick:
"At the end of the day, it's about people making plays, about playing football. That's what I am, I'm a football player."
