Two decades after a miraculous rescue, Brant Webb reflects on life, loss, and gratitude.
Brant Webb, one of two miners trapped in a Tasmanian goldmine for 14 days in 2006, reflects on the two decades since his rescue. Webb and Todd Russell became household names after a rockslide killed miner Larry Knight and trapped them underground.
"My brain has helped me process the ordeal by discarding negative memories."
Now 57, Webb works as a renovator and grandfather. He expressed gratitude towards the rescuers, saying they kept him alive for two weeks.
Greg Crowden, a mine rescuer, described the rescue as a complex team effort. Barry Easther, former mayor of Beaconsfield, recalled the community's support. Bill Shorten, former union secretary, credited the miners for their endurance.
The Beaconsfield mine closed in 2012 and is now a museum.
