Cardinals Downplay Rookie QB Competition, Focus on Integration

General Manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Mike LaFleur have declined to discuss the possibility of rookie quarterback Carson Beck competing for the starting job. Beck was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the NFL draft.

Ossenfort stated that the team's immediate priority is to integrate Beck into the organization. He noted that the team values competition in the quarterback room and will assess the situation as it develops.

LaFleur acknowledged that Beck could benefit from learning from the sideline but indicated that if Beck demonstrates he is the best quarterback, he will play.

"It benefits anyone at any position to be able to sit back. Sometimes guys don't have a choice because you have to put your best 22 on the field, so we'll see where this all shakes out."

Ossenfort highlighted the team's pre-draft evaluation of Beck, which included meetings at the NFL Combine and a 30 visit. He cited Beck's experience in high-pressure games in the SEC and the National Championship Game as factors contributing to his value as a third-round pick.

Beck will now join a quarterback room that includes Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew. It remains unclear when he will see playing time in the NFL.
