Adelaide’s Unseasonable Heatwave Sets a Late-Season Record

Adelaide experienced its warmest four-day period this late in the season since 1921.

A Stretch of Record-Breaking Warmth
Adelaide is currently in the grip of unseasonably warm weather. Today's maximum temperature at West Terrace was 28.2°C, which is 6 degrees above the April average. The previous four days also posted above-average maxima:

  • Tuesday, 21 April: 30.5°C
  • Wednesday, 22 April: 29.3°C
  • Thursday, 23 April: 29.7°C
  • Friday, 24 April: 28.6°C

The average maximum over those four days was 29.48°C, marking Adelaide's warmest four-day period this late in the season since 1921.

A Breather on the Way
A surface trough is expected to pass over Adelaide this afternoon, bringing a cool southerly change. Cooler temperatures are forecast for early next week.

However, the reprieve may be brief. Maxima are expected to reach the upper 20s again from Wednesday.
