Timberwolves Shaken by Injuries to Edwards and DiVincenzo in Game 4 Win

Minnesota Timberwolves guards Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo sustained serious injuries during Game 4 of their first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets on April 26, 2025. Edwards was diagnosed with a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise, while DiVincenzo suffered a season-ending torn right Achilles tendon. Despite the losses, the Timberwolves hold a 3-1 series lead.

Incident Details

DiVincenzo’s Injury
DiVincenzo injured his lower right leg in the opening minutes of the first quarter when he slipped while chasing the ball. He signaled for assistance immediately and was unable to put weight on his right foot. The team announced he would miss the remainder of the game. He was later diagnosed with a torn right Achilles tendon and underwent surgery on April 27, 2025. The injury is expected to also affect his availability for the 2026-27 season.

Edwards’ Injury
Edwards' injury occurred late in the second quarter when he contested a layup by Cameron Johnson and landed awkwardly, causing his left knee to buckle. He was helped to the locker room and did not return. An MRI revealed a hyperextension and bone bruise, but no structural damage to ligaments. He is expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks.

Player Performance Context

"I just dapped him up. There's not much to say in those moments." — Julius Randle, on his exchange with Edwards after the game.

Anthony Edwards entered the playoffs with a pre-existing right knee injury that caused him to miss regular-season games. In four playoff games prior to his injury, he averaged 18.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game, shooting 35.8% from the field.

Donte DiVincenzo averaged 14.3 points per game in the first three games of the series, making 11 of 22 three-point attempts.

Series Status

The Timberwolves hold a 3-1 series lead over the Nuggets. Game 5 is scheduled for April 28, 2025, in Denver.

During Game 4, trade deadline acquisition Ayo Dosunmu scored a career-high 43 points in the second half, shooting 13-of-17 from the field, 5-of-5 from three-point range, and 12-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Team Response

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch commented on DiVincenzo's injury, describing him as the "heart and soul" of the team.

Forward Julius Randle stated he had a brief exchange with Edwards after the game, saying, "I just dapped him up. There's not much to say in those moments."
