Thunderstorm Produces Tornadoes in Northern Texas, Two Killed

A thunderstorm produced tornadoes in northern Texas on Saturday night, resulting in two fatalities and damage to homes.

Fatalities and Damage

One fatality occurred in Runaway Bay, Wise County. Wise County Judge J.D. Clark reported that numerous homes were damaged in the area and at least 20 families were displaced.

A second fatality occurred south of the city limits of Springtown, Parker County, according to Parker County Assistant Fire Chief David Pruitt.

Multiple homes sustained major damage across both areas.

Confirmed Tornadoes

The National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes associated with the storm:

  • An EF-2 tornado with peak winds of 135 mph (217 kph) near Runaway Bay.
  • An EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 105 mph (169 kph) near Springtown.

Storm Path and Aftermath

The storm moved southeast from near Wichita Falls around 10 p.m. Saturday, passing west of Fort Worth. Runaway Bay is located approximately 45 miles northwest of Fort Worth, while Springtown is located approximately 30 miles northwest of Fort Worth.

Emergency responders cleared debris to reach damaged homes and provide medical care.

Challenges for response efforts included blocked roadways, downed utilities, and widespread power outages.
