Super ZSNES: A New Era for SNES Emulation Begins

Developers zsKnight and Demo have released an early build of Super ZSNES, a full-fledged sequel to the legendary ZSNES Super Nintendo emulator that first debuted in 1997.

A Complete Rewrite from the Ground Up

Unlike its predecessor, this new emulator has been entirely rewritten from scratch. At its core is a GPU-powered "Super Enhancement Engine" that unlocks a host of modern features:

  • High-resolution playback
  • Overclocking capabilities
  • Widescreen support
  • Uncompressed audio
  • 3D height maps for Mode 7 graphics

"Super ZSNES is not just an update—it is a complete reimagining of what SNES emulation can be."

Enhanced Accuracy and Modern Conveniences

The developers emphasize that Super ZSNES includes significantly more accurate CPU and audio cores compared to the original. For players, this means smoother performance and truer-to-hardware sound.

The emulator also ships with practical, modern tools:

  • Fast forward/rewind save states for quick navigation
  • A higher-resolution version of the original user interface, preserving its nostalgic look while adapting to modern displays

Platform Availability

Super ZSNES is currently available for:

  • Windows
  • Mac
  • Android

An iOS release is also planned for the future.

A Legacy Reborn

With its powerful new engine and commitment to accuracy, Super ZSNES aims to bridge the gap between retro authenticity and modern gaming convenience—bringing a beloved classic emulator into the 21st century.
