Dylan Carter, a 24-year-old contestant from season 24 of NBC's The Voice, died on Saturday, April 25, from blunt force injuries sustained in a single-vehicle car accident in Colleton County, South Carolina. The Colleton County Coroner ruled the death accidental and confirmed Carter was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Details of the Incident
The accident occurred on Lowcountry Highway in Colleton County. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Carter was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which ran off the road, struck a utility pole and a fence, and overturned. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Career on The Voice
Carter appeared on season 24 of The Voice in 2023. During his blind audition, he performed Whitney Houston’s "I Look to You" as a tribute to his late mother. All four coaches—Reba McEntire, John Legend, Niall Horan, and Gwen Stefani—selected him for their teams. Carter chose McEntire as his coach and was eliminated during the battle rounds.
Following his elimination, Carter stated in an Instagram post that he gained "EVERYTHING" from the experience, including confidence and a sense of peace regarding his mother's death.

Carter co-founded The Local Voice, a South Carolina nonprofit organization that supports women fighting breast cancer and provides assistance to families in need. The organization announced his death on Facebook and stated that it will continue its mission in his honor.
Carter also owned Sunny Days RV & Campground and worked as a realtor. He was scheduled to perform a concert in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, on April 27.

Thomas Hamilton Jr., mayor of Moncks Corner, Carter’s hometown, expressed condolences on Facebook, describing Carter as a gifted singer who performed at town events and noting that Carter was more than an entertainer to the family.
Reba McEntire, Carter’s coach on The Voice, posted on Instagram and Facebook, stating: "We will miss Dylan so much. He was a brilliant, kind and talented young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to The Voice."
