US Attorney Jeanine Pirro Provides Update on Press Dinner Shooting Investigation

Washington, D.C. – US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro offered an update Monday on the investigation into the suspect behind the press dinner shooting.

Investigation Status

Pirro stated that the investigation is in its early stages, with authorities actively seeking additional evidence, including the suspect's online activity. "We are examining the suspect's digital presence," she said.

Regarding the strength of the case, Pirro described it as "solid" and noted that officials are "just at the beginning" of the investigation. She confirmed that authorities aim to track the suspect's actions from the moment he made a reservation at the Hilton hotel.

"We are just at the beginning of the investigation, but the case is solid."

Jury Nullification Concerns

When asked about potential jury nullification, Pirro dismissed those concerns, arguing that the circumstances of this case differentiate it from others.

Background: District Court Win Rate

CNN reported earlier in March that Pirro's office has experienced an unusually low win rate in trials in Washington's federal district court this year. This has been attributed in part to a jury pool that has lost trust in the Trump administration.

Pirro emphasized the presence of a diverse group of attendees at the event—approximately 2,500 people including Democrats, Republicans, and individuals with varying opinions on President Trump—and called for societal recognition that such violence must cease.

"This violence must stop. We must recognize that as a society."
