Apple Intelligence Gets a Major Upgrade with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27

Apple is preparing to release iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 later this year, delivering a wave of bug fixes and significantly expanded capabilities for its Apple Intelligence platform. According to Bloomberg, the updates will center on a major overhaul of the Photos app, introducing new AI-powered editing tools.

AI-Powered Photo Editing Tools

While the current Photos app offers features like saturation, contrast, filters, crop, and AI object removal via the "Clean Up" tool, the upcoming software will add three powerful new options:

  • Extend: Uses generative AI to intelligently expand the background of a photo.
  • Enhance: Automatically improves lighting and overall image quality with a single tap.
  • Reframe: Allows users to shift the perspective of spatial photos after they have been captured.

These features would align Apple's photo editing capabilities with competitors like Google and Samsung, though both still offer more extensive AI generation features. Google's Magic Editor (2023) currently provides more radical image manipulation.

A Smarter, More Integrated Siri

Beyond the Photos app, the reports detail several other key updates for Apple’s software ecosystem:

  • A New Siri: A revamped version of the voice assistant, reportedly powered by Google's Gemini models.
  • A Standalone Siri App: For the first time, Siri may become a dedicated application rather than a system-level feature.
  • AI-Powered Search: A new, smarter search function that will operate across Apple's native apps.

When to Expect It

Apple is likely to introduce these features during the WWDC keynote on June 8.
