"I'm ready to go put on a show."
Top Recruit Tyran Stokes Commits to Kansas
The No. 1 recruit in the 2026 class is heading to Lawrence. Tyran Stokes announced his commitment to the Kansas Jayhawks live on ESPN's "NBA Tip-Off," choosing Bill Self's program over finalists Kentucky and Oregon.
A National No. 1 Pick. The 6-foot-7 versatile wing is the highest-ranked prospect in Rivals' 2026 high school rankings, making his commitment a massive win for Kansas on the recruiting trail.
A Loyal Connection. During his announcement, Stokes highlighted the enduring relationship with head coach Bill Self as the deciding factor:
"Coach Bill Self, great coach, great person. He's been there from the beginning. He's always fed into me. [Self] gave me great advice through the entire process."
A Spotlight Opportunity. Stokes is expected to become the central figure in Kansas' offense. The Jayhawks are losing several key contributors, including likely top-three NBA Draft pick Darryn Peterson, clearing a path for Stokes to command the game from day one.
Bolstering an Already Strong Class. Before Stokes' commitment, Kansas held the No. 14 ranked recruiting class for 2026, anchored by four-star prospects Tay Kinney and Davion Atkins. Stokes' addition instantly transforms this group into a national powerhouse haul.
A Message to the Faithful. Stokes closed his announcement with a promise to the Jayhawk faithful:
"I just want to say thank you to the university, Rock Chalk Nation, just giving me the opportunity to go into Allen Fieldhouse and just leave my mark. I'm ready to go put on a show."
