Kacey Musgraves Announces New Album Middle of Nowhere and Tour
NASHVILLE, TN – Kacey Musgraves is set to release her sixth studio album, Middle of Nowhere, on May 1. In a recent interview, the singer detailed the deeply personal themes of the record, marking a significant new chapter in her songwriting career.
"Sitting on the washing machine"
Musgraves revealed that the album explores a period of abstinence, a theme directly addressed in the song "Dry Spell." The track features the lyric "Sitting on the washing machine," which Musgraves confirmed is a reference to self-pleasure—a first in her songwriting catalog. She noted that her grandmother reacted to this material with some concern but is now in good health.
The album also arrives with a major reconciliation. Musgraves confirmed a duet with Miranda Lambert, addressing a past feud over the song "Mama's Broken Heart," which Lambert recorded as a hit. Musgraves reached out to Lambert, and the two co-wrote the new song together with Shane McAnally. The record further features a collaboration with the legendary Willie Nelson.
Musgraves described Middle of Nowhere as a return to traditional country sounds after a period of more experimental work. Fans can expect a tour supporting the album, with dates scheduled to begin on August 21.
