Three guns seized from Perth home as police target extremist ideology under post-Bondi operation.
## Seizure Under Operation Larkman Alpha
Western Australian Police seized three guns and ammunition from a Perth home under Operation Larkman Alpha, launched after the Bondi Beach shooting to reassess firearm licence holders.
The firearms were registered to a lawful owner but were accessible to his father, who lives with him and holds extreme white supremacist ideology.
Police Commissioner Col Blanch stated that Nazi flags were displayed in the home, including near an unlocked firearms cabinet, giving the father access to the guns.
"The father was deemed not a 'fit and proper person' to have access to firearms under WA legislation."
This decision was based on WA legislation, which gives the police commissioner broad discretion to consider a person's views, opinions, and attitudes.
## No Charges Laid
No charges have been laid in relation to this seizure.
## Separate Explosives Charges
In a related operation, a 42-year-old man from High Wycombe was charged with 10 counts of making or possessing explosives, as well as weapon and drug offences. He is scheduled to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court next month.
## New Gun Laws
WA introduced new gun laws in 2024 with greater restrictions, emphasizing that firearm possession is a privilege, not a right.
The police commissioner can now consider who a person lives with and their associates when assessing fitness to own guns.
