Lionsgate, Blumhouse to Revive Blair Witch Project with Original Creators Involved

View source

The Blair Witch Project is returning to the big screen, with a new installment in the works from Lionsgate and Blumhouse.

Dylan Clark will direct the project from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin. The original film's stars, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, along with directors Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick, and producer Gregg Hale, will serve as executive producers. This marks the first time the original creative team has been involved in a sequel.

The original 1999 film, made for just $35,000, earned $248 million globally and became a cultural phenomenon.

This new project is part of a multi-film deal between Lionsgate and Blumhouse to reimagine the studio's horror classics. Producers include James Wan (Atomic Monster), Jason Blum (Blumhouse), Roy Lee, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath.

Previous sequels, including Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000) and a 2016 follow-up, did not involve the original creative team. Leonard had publicly expressed frustration over the lack of involvement in those earlier iterations.
