TDCS therapy tested for postpartum depression in East Anglia

View source

A new treatment for postpartum depression is being explored in England, offering hope when standard medications fail.

A Mother’s Choice: tDCS Over ECT

A 34-year-old mother diagnosed with postpartum depression at a mother-and-baby unit in East Anglia, England, was offered transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) after Prozac dosage increases proved ineffective.

The patient initially expressed concern about potential memory effects, distinguishing tDCS from electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which can cause memory loss. tDCS uses a weak electric current and does not induce seizures.
