Vegas rallies late, wins in double OT to take 3-2 series lead

In a wild and back-and-forth Game 5, the Vegas Golden Knights outlasted the Utah Mammoth 5-4 in double overtime, taking a crucial 3-2 lead in the first-round playoff series.

The first four goals were traded by both teams, with Utah scoring first and Vegas answering each time. Late in the second period, Vegas took its first lead of the game on a goal that Mammoth goaltender Karel Vejmelka could be faulted for.

Utah's Dylan Guenther tied the game early in the third period. Later, Michael Carcone scored on a rush to give Utah a 4-3 lead late in regulation.

Vegas's Pavel Dorofeyev scored his third goal of the game with an empty net and just one minute remaining in regulation, tying the game and forcing overtime.

"The first overtime period was scoreless."

In the second overtime, Vegas's Brett Howden scored after forcing a turnover from Utah's Alexander Kerfoot, ending the marathon affair.
