Ten injured, two critically, after four-car crash on Maryborough Hervey Bay Road

Police have reported that a four-car collision on Maryborough Hervey Bay Road in Susan River, Queensland, has left ten people injured, two of them critically. The crash occurred just after 6:00 PM on a Thursday evening.

The incident began when a white Mitsubishi Lancer, allegedly driven by a 14-year-old boy, lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic.

The vehicle then struck a white Suzuki Swift before colliding with an orange Kona. A red Volkswagen Polo traveling behind the Kona was also involved in the crash.

Injuries

  • Critical Condition: A 16-year-old female passenger in the Mitsubishi Lancer and an 18-year-old female driver of the Suzuki Swift were both airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
  • Stable Condition: The 14-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi, along with two other passengers (a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl), were taken to Hervey Bay Hospital with minor injuries. A 40-year-old male driver of the Kona, a 40-year-old woman, and a two-year-old boy were also taken to Hervey Bay Hospital with minor injuries.
  • Checked as Precaution: A 58-year-old female passenger in the Suzuki Swift and a 19-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen Polo were taken to Hervey Bay Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Investigation

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident. Police have stated an update will be provided at a later date and are urging any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage to come forward.
