A juvenile humpback whale that washed ashore south of Mandurah, Western Australia, was removed by the City of Mandurah on Thursday.
The whale was first spotted floating approximately 1 km off Dawesville Cut on Wednesday, with sharks feeding on the carcass. The carcass subsequently washed ashore at Florida Beach later that day.
A specialist contractor wrapped and transported the whale to Dardanup Landfill for disposal. Shark alerts remain in place and the beach is closed until deemed safe.
Drone photos of the beached whale were captured by M.E. Photography.
