Tarique Rahman has returned to Bangladesh after residing outside the country for 17 years. His return occurs prior to upcoming general elections.
Rahman, aged 60, is a figure associated with the Zia family, which has been prominent in Bangladeshi politics. He is the son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Since 2008, he has lived in London.
He serves as the leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). The party is participating in general elections scheduled for the new year. If the BNP secures the position of the largest party, Rahman is expected to assume a leadership role within the country's government.
