Supreme Court Ruling on Voting Rights Act
The Supreme Court issued a 6-3 opinion eliminating protections for predominantly minority districts under the Voting Rights Act. The ruling argues that breaking up predominantly Black districts is not racist if the intent is partisan gerrymandering.
This decision is expected to enable Republican-led gerrymandering in Southern states, potentially reducing the number of districts held by Black Democrats by 2028.
Democrats may respond with counter-gerrymandering in states like Colorado, Washington, New York, and Illinois.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized these proposals, arguing they would gut the resource base for guaranteed health care. She stated that "this race to try to see who can be exempt from participating in society is not a conversation that I’m interested in."
