Federica Andrisani & Oskar Rossi: A Love Story Baked in Tasmania

"They communicated via Google Translate, began a relationship, and later moved to Tasmania."

From Milan to Marano Vicentino
In 2013, pastry chef Federica Andrisani left Milan for the small town of Marano Vicentino, Italy, to work at the restaurant El Coq. The following year, in 2014, a chef from Tasmania named Oskar Rossi arrived at the same kitchen.

Lost in Translation, Found in Love
With no common language between them, Andrisani and Rossi relied on Google Translate to communicate. What began as a digital crutch soon became the foundation of a relationship. Their bond deepened, and the couple eventually decided to leave Italy together, settling in Rossi's home state of Tasmania.

Building a Culinary Empire
In 2016, the pair opened Fico, their first restaurant. Eight years later, in 2024, they expanded with a second venue, Pitzi.

A New Voice
After approximately five years of living in an English-speaking country, Andrisani achieved fluency in the language—a milestone that marked both her personal and professional integration into Tasmanian life.
