NRL Market Wrap: Bula Stays, Dragons Shake Up Training
The Wests Tigers have secured fullback Jahream Bula on a multi-year contract extension, while several other NRL clubs have announced roster and coaching adjustments.
Wests Tigers Re-Sign Jahream BulaThe Wests Tigers have agreed to a contract extension with fullback Jahream Bula, according to a report by Nine's Danny Weidler.
The new deal is reported to keep Bula at the club until the end of the 2030 season. An official announcement is expected in the coming days.
Bula was previously under contract until the end of the season with a player option in his favor. The Bulldogs had expressed interest in signing him, with Phil Gould publicly stating his admiration for Bula.
The extension follows reports from last week that contract negotiations had stalled. Code Sports' Brent Read stated on NRL 360:
"I don't think (a decision is fast approaching). They’ve been locked in talks over an extension and it hasn’t happened and that suggests to me it probably won’t happen before the deadline in two weeks. Then the ball is in the Tigers court. They can take up that option for $900,000 for next year. I think they’ll work hard to get something done in the next couple of weeks."
This deal follows the decision by Jarome Luai to join the PNG Chiefs. The Tigers also secured prop Terrell May to a three-year extension on Friday.
St. George Illawarra Dragons Adjust Training ScheduleInterim coach Dean Young has implemented new training guidelines for the St. George Illawarra Dragons. The changes come following a winless start to the season and a loss to the Sydney Roosters on ANZAC Day.
The new guidelines include set training hours from 7 am to 5 pm, with an emphasis on work during that time. Player Valentine Holmes stated that Young has restructured daily training, focusing on punctuality and work hours. Captain Clint Gutherson said the team has accepted the new approach.
