The Hurricanes enter the series as the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a 53-22-7 record (113 points), while the Flyers qualified as a wild card with a 43-27-12 record (98 points).
Carolina advanced to the second round after defeating the Ottawa Senators in the first round. That victory represents the Hurricanes' eighth consecutive postseason series win, a feat previously achieved only by the Montreal Canadiens and the Philadelphia Flyers.
