Policy Change: Physicians Exempted from Travel Ban Processing Hold
The Trump administration has updated its policy to exempt physicians from a processing hold that was part of a travel ban on approximately 39 countries.
According to The New York Times, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) updated its website without a formal announcement, stating that applications associated with medical physicians will continue processing.
The policy change applies to physicians already in the US; physicians outside the US remain subject to the external travel ban.
The exemption follows concerns from medical associations about barriers to foreign doctors, who constitute about 25% of physicians in the US.
