First Day of Public Hearings Opens in Sydney
The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion began its first public hearings in Sydney, marking a significant step in addressing community concerns.
Former High Court judge Virginia Bell is presiding over the first block of hearings. The proceedings will focus on two core issues: the formal definition of antisemitism and the lived experiences of Jewish Australians.
The first witness called to the stand is Sheina Gutnick, daughter of Reuven Morrison, a victim of the tragic Bondi Beach terror attack. Her testimony is expected to provide a powerful, personal account of the impact of targeted violence on individuals and families within the Jewish community.
The hearings are scheduled to continue, with further witnesses expected to share their experiences in the coming days.
