"Limb-saving" surgery after acute compartment syndrome diagnosis.
Brisbane Broncos outside back Deine Mariner underwent emergency surgery in the early hours of Sunday morning after suffering a severe injury during Saturday night’s match against the Sydney Roosters.
Mariner initially left the field in the first half with what was described as a "bad cork." He later returned to play the final 15 minutes after another player was injured. However, after the match, his condition rapidly worsened, with increasing pain and swelling in his thigh.
He was diagnosed with acute compartment syndrome, a dangerous condition involving increased pressure within the muscles that can restrict blood flow and cause tissue damage. Mariner underwent "limb-saving" surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.
As of the report, the length of his recovery remains unknown.
