Hyundai i20 N Shadow Edition: A Final Farewell
i20 N Shadow Edition DetailsHyundai has announced the i20 N Shadow Edition as the final variant of the current-generation hot hatch, with 100 units allocated for the Australian market. Separately, Hyundai Australia has confirmed it will not offer the i30 Sedan N TCR Edition but will introduce multiple locally-developed special-edition N models.
The Shadow Edition is a limited-run send-off for the beloved i20 N, offered in two colors: Atlas White at $41,500 and Phantom Black at $42,095 (before on-road costs). By comparison, the standard i20 N is priced at $38,500.
The allocation is heavily weighted toward the darker option, with an 80:20 split in favor of Phantom Black. Each vehicle is individually numbered, adding to its collectibility.
Standard equipment highlights include:
- Matte bronze 18-inch alloy wheels with black nuts
- Bronze metallic accents on door decals and a center console plaque
- Alcantara steering wheel with blue stitching and an on-center marker
- Alcantara gear knob
- Pirelli tire-tread patterned floor mats
No mechanical changes have been made. The vehicle retains the same 150kW/275Nm 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual gearbox as the standard i20 N.
Production of the i20 N ended in March 2026. Stock of the Shadow Edition is expected to last until the end of 2026. Hyundai Australia has not officially announced a similar edition for the i30 Hatch N.
Future of the i20 NLocal product development manager Tim Rodgers indicated the i20 N nameplate may return in the future, stating it is not a permanent departure from the market. A fourth-generation i20 was unveiled in Brazil, but availability for other markets has not been announced.
i30 Sedan N TCR Edition: Not Coming to Australia
Hyundai Australia has decided against offering the i30 Sedan N TCR Edition. Factory orders are closed. Instead, the TCR Edition's upgrades will be available as individual genuine accessories and N Performance parts.
Available parts from the TCR Edition to be sold separately:
- Four-piston monobloc front brake calipers
- Alcantara steering wheel
- Alcantara gear lever/selector and handbrake
- Cold air intake
- Forged 19-inch wheels
- A fixed carbon rear wing (instead of the adjustable rear wing)
Local Special Edition Plans
Tim Rodgers confirmed that Australia will receive several special-edition N models, including unique versions of the i20 N and i30 N hatches. A special edition of the i30 Sedan N is also in development.
Rodgers stated: "By the end of this year we’ll have one in-market for us, and we’ve got a couple more on the drawing board that we’re working on, but we’re lucky for our market, two of these cars are unique to us."
Market Context
The i20 N and i30 N hatches are still offered in Australia. Australia is the only major market for the i30 N. New Zealand also receives the i20 N. The next-generation Sedan N is expected in the second half of next year.
